BICTA 2018 Award Ceremony


Thursday 30th August 2018 / 18th Zulhijjah 1439 – The Brunei Info-Communication Technology Awards (BICTA) 2018 Award Ceremony was held this morning at the Main Conference Hall, International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas. Consenting to grace the event as the Guest of Honour was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, as the Royal Patron of BICTA.

 

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah was greeted by:-

i.         Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib Bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, Minister of Communications;

ii.       Dato Seri Paduka Awang Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry as Chairman of AITI;

iii.      Haji Azhar bin Haji Ahmad, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications as Co-Chairman I of the BICTA Steering Committee; and

iv.      Sheikh Haji Abbas bin Sheikh Mohamad, Chairman of IFB as Co-Chairman II of the BICTA Steering Committee.   

 

The function began with a recital of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Imam Dato Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.  This was followed by Welcoming Remarks by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib Bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, the Minister of Communications.  In his Welcoming Remarks, the Minister of Communications, among others, stated that the presence of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince as the Royal Patron of BICTA, becomes a high motivation for the the local ICT industry players and youths to be more innovative, creative and competitive.

As the main highlight of the event, His Royal Highness consented to present the Royal Patron Award to MINDPLUS SDN BHD. This biennial award is given to the overall winner who is the best in all categories.

Prior to that, His Royal Highness also consented to present plaques of appreciation to judges and speakers of the BICTA workshop as well as prizes and the BICTA 2018 award to the winners of a number of categories. 

His Royal Highness then viewed the exhibition showcasing the products of the ICT winners. BICTA was first organised in 2004 and is an annual event organized by the Ministry of Communications in collaboration with the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (AITI) and the Infocom Federation of Brunei. 

Among the objectives of BICTA is to stimulate ICT industry innovation and creativity amongst individuals, students and entrepreneurs including SMEs. 

The theme for BICTA 2018 is Digital Generation With A Vision, and it is hoped that BICTA will continue to provide the platform for ICT professionals to constantly innovate, resulting in more locally-inspired business solutions benefitting the community in Brunei Darussalam.  The winners of BICTA will have the opportunity to represent Brunei Darussalam in the regional competition, namely the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA) which will be held in Guangzhou, People's Republic of China from 9 to 13 October 2018.
