Saturday, 7 September 2019 - Digital Economy Master Plan Retreat
A Digital Economy Master Plan Retreat was held today at the Mangrove Paradise Resort, Kampong Sungai Belukut, organized by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications and the Digital Economy Council. The objective of the retreat was a whole of nation approach involving all government agencies and relevant stakeholders in the digital and infocommunications industries to review and consolidate the draft Digital Economy Master Plan prepared via their respective inputs and feecback and also to align agency initiatives to the draft Master Plan. 

Present at the retreat were a member of the Legislative Council, Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries as well as Chief Executive Officers and senior officers from both government and private sector agencies from the telecommunications, banking and other related sectors.

The retreat brought together all government agencies and relevant sectors to consolidate the draft Master Plan and discuss as well as share perspectives on Brunei Darussalam’s Digital Journey and transformation towards a Smart Nation, the digital economy vision, the current challenges and gaps faced by all agencies and sectors, to discuss strategic outcomes, thrusts and enablers as well as the proposed digital economy action plan for the next five years.

In his closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications stressed on the need for whole of nation collaboration to ensure the Digital Economy Master Plan and its outcomes are realized. The digital economy in tandem with digital government and digital society form important components of the Smart Nation. Its success will also depend on integration and inclusivity of sectoral blueprints including proposed strategic national projects such as Digital ID and Digital Payments. These and other digital projects and export-driven initiatives supported by growing future talent will also be incorporated into the Digital Economy Master Plan.
