Minister of Transport and Infocommunications attended The Changi Aviation Summit, on 17th – 18th May 2022, Singapore
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Awang Mohammad Yusof, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, Brunei Darussalam attended The Changi Aviation Summit 2022 (CAS 2022) held from 17th to 18th May 2022 in Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Singapore.

The Changi Aviation Summit (CAS) was officiated by His Excellency S. Iswaran, Minister for Transport and Minister in charge of Trade-Relations, Singapore with the theme “Readying for Take-off: A Brighter & Cleaner Tomorrow”. The summit was also attended by Ministers of Transport from several ASEAN countries, Government representatives as well as experts from aviation sector and leaders from international civil aviation organisations, namely the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), International Air Transport Association (IATA).

During the summit, the Ministers of Transport from Southeast Asia also released and adopted the “Joint Support for the Recovery of the Civil Aviation Sector”, where amongst others it supports the initiatives towards the urgent recovery of the aviation sector.

In the support for the recovery of aviation sector as a whole and towards sustainability, A Joint Communique was also released during the summit. The statement amongst others highlighted the support towards reviving and accelerating the recovery of the global aviation sector, promote environmental sustainability and support the development and growth of the sector through inclusive innovation.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib was also invited as a speaker in Panel Discussions on “Inclusive Innovation” with other government and industry representatives from the aviation sector. During the panel discussion, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib shared Brunei Darussalam’s own experiences and challenges faced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Also shared was the opportunity offered from the pandemic with the increased and accelerated digital transformation, where targets for the adoption of digital technologies in 2023 were achieved in year 2020.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib emphasised that Brunei Darussalam continues to strive for greater innovation and technological advancements through a “whole of nation” approach, and these advancements must be accompanied hand-in-hand by strengthened safety and security systems that will address non-traditional challenges including cybersecurity.

Several sideline events were also held during the CAS including a courtesy call with His Excellency S. Iswaran, Minister for Transport and Minister in charge of Trade-Relations, Singapore and courtesy call between Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Awang Mohammad Yusof, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Brunei Darussalam and Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong, Minister of Transport, Malaysia. During the meeting, both Ministers discussed on transport matters and future of both aviation and land transport.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib and delegation also conducted working visits to several agencies related to transport sector in Singapore, including the Changi Airport Group and the Land Transport Authority (LTA). The main objectives of the visits were to share and exchange information, and to learn best practices in the development of the land transport and aviation sectors towards sustainability.

Also present at the CAS 2022 in this entourage were Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) as well as senior officials at the ministry.
