The 38TH ASEAN TRANSPORT FACILITATION WORKING GROUP MEETING

15th October 2019, Bandar Seri Begawan -TheLand Transport Department under the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunication is hosting the 38th ASEAN Transport Facilitation Working Group (TFWG) which is held today, 15th October until 17th October 2019 at the Centrepoint Hotel, Gadong.

Brunei Darussalam has been resuming its chairmanship from the last 37th ASEAN TFWG Meeting held between 09th to 11thApril earlier this year. The opening speech was delivered by Yang Mulia Haji Rozaly Bin Haji Saidon, Acting Director of the Land Transport Department in his capacity as Chairman of the 38th ASEAN TFWG Meeting.

The main agenda of the meeting among others will be:

  • To discuss on progress by ASEAN Member States in implementing the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Facilitation of Goods in Transit (AFAFGIT) and the ASEAN Framework Agreement on the Facilitation of Inter-State Transport (AFAFIST).
  • To consider progress reports of the National Transit Transport Coordinating Committees (NTTCCS) as presented by respective ASEAN member countries.
     
  • To assess and consider on the implementation of the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Multimodal Transport (AFAMT) prior to the 48th Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM) and the 25th ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting (ATM) to be held on 11-15 November 2019 in Hanoi, Vietnam.


  • To deliberate on requirements for the pilot implementation of the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Cross-Border Transport of Passengers by Road Vehicles (CBTP), and
     
  • As platform for ASEAN member states and private sector representatives to work out their respective cross-cutting differences with exchange of views to reduce the transport facilitation gaps.

The meeting will be held for three (3) days and is participated by delegates from ASEAN Member States; the ASEAN Secretariat; the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan (MLIT); the ASEAN Regional Integration Support by the EU (ARISE) as the ASEAN Dialogue Partner as well as the Transport Associations, namely the ASEAN Federation of Forwarders Association (AFFA), the ASEAN Trucking Federation (ATF) and the International Road Transport Union (IRU). The Brunei Darussalam's delegation includes senior officials from the Land Transport Department, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, other government agencies as well as representatives from local private sectors.
