Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2024 Welcoming Gala and Official Opening
The Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2024 Welcoming Gala and Official Opening was held this evening at Indera Samudra Grand Hall, The Empire Hotel. Consented to grace the event as the Guest of Honour was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by:-
i. Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications;
ii. Yang Mulia Mr. Fulvio Inserra, APICTA Chairman;
iii. Yang Mulia Ir. Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications as Co-Chair I of APICTA Awards 2024 Working Committee;
iv. Yang Mulia Pengiran Sarimah binti Pengiran Haji Abdul Latiff, Chairwoman, InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB) as Co-Chair II of APICTA Awards 2024 Working Committee; and
v. Yang Mulia Ir. Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar, Chief Executive of the Authority for Info communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI).
The Welcoming Gala and Official Opening ceremony began with a welcoming address by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, followed by a speech by the APICTA Chairman, Yang Mulia Mr. Fulvio Inserra.
His Royal Highness then graciously officiated the launch of the APICTA Awards 2024, marking the beginning of this prestigious event. Following the launch, His Royal Highness received a Pesambah from the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications. This was later followed by the screening of a video on the APICTA Awards 2024, highlighting the various awards categories and activities taking place throughout the week. The ceremony also featured captivating cultural performances and lively entertainment by local singers and dancers. The event concluded with His Royal Highness being invited to meet and personally greet the distinguished delegation, offering an opportunity for engagement and further interaction among APICTA economies.
The APICTA Awards Welcoming Gala and Official Opening, a vibrant and dynamic gathering that sets the tone for the prestigious event. It serves as a welcoming platform for delegates, participants, sponsors, and distinguished guests, offering an opportunity to network and celebrate innovation in ICT. It is an evening of camaraderie and anticipation, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey of recognition and achievement.
APICTA Awards is held annually as a platform for Asia-Pacific regional competition in innovative digital products and solutions, recognizing their competitiveness and potential at the Asia-Pacific level. The alliance comprises 17 member economies, including Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.
This year, Brunei Darussalam has the privilege of hosting the APICTA Awards 2024, a significant milestone that coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA). This marks the second time that Brunei host APICTA, the first being in 2012. APICTA Awards 2024, organised by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications in collaboration with the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) and InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB), welcomed more than 500 delegates from the member economies. These include the APICTA Executive Committee (EXCO), judges, competition participants, and industry representatives from the Asia-Pacific region.
The competition features thirty-five (35) categories, including sub-categories under Consumer, Community Services & Inclusions, Industrial, Business Services, Public Sector & Government, Students, Cross Categories, and Technology Awards. In addition, a People’s Choice Award will be contested under the Senior Student and Tertiary Student Project categories, with winners determined by the highest number of public votes.
Several activities have been planned throughout the APICTA Awards 2024. These include Business Networking and Students Networking sessions, offering valuable opportunities for stakeholders, particularly those in the technology and innovation space, to connect and collaborate. Additionally, in conjunction with the APICTA Awards 2024, the Digital Brunei Exhibition highlights the progress of innovation and Brunei Darussalam’s commitment towards digital transformation is being held from 4 to 6 December 2024 at the Atrium, The Mall, Gadong and is opened to the members of the public from 10 am to 9 pm.
