Brunei Cybersecurity Conference 2024

The 2nd Brunei Cybersecurity Conference (CySec 2024) commenced today, bringing together local and international cybersecurity experts to address pressing digital threats and explore innovative solutions. Co-hosted by Brunei Cyber Security Association (BCSA) and Cyber Security Brunei (CSB), the two-day event is being held at Indera Samudra Grand Hall, The Empire.
CySec 2024 features a comprehensive agenda focused on cyber vigilance and data sovereignty, with keynote speeches, workshops, and an exhibition showcasing the latest cybersecurity technologies. Key exhibitors include leading cybersecurity providers Recorded Future, Tenable, Keysight, Nexagate, Swarmnetics, KnowBe4, Fortinet and Deloitte.
The event also hosted Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag, a cybersecurity competition by ITPSS Sdn Bhd, where teams of hackers tested their skills in a simulated cyber environment.
CySec 2024 aims to raise awareness of the importance of cybersecurity in the digital landscape and to enhance the understanding and implementation of effective cybersecurity measures among local organizations.
The opening of CySec 2024 was officiated this afternoon by the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, as the Minister-in-charge of Cybersecurity.
Exchange of Memorandums of Understanding 
 
Several Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were exchanged:
• MOU between IT Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS) and Group-IB Global Pte Ltd on cybersecurity cooperation.
• MOU between IT Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS) and Nexagate Sdn Bhd on cybersecurity governance, risk management and compliance services.
• MOU between IT Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS) and CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) on cybersecurity cooperation.
• MOU between Brunei Cyber Security Association (BCSA) and CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) on the Global ACE Certification Brunei Chapter.
• MOU between Brunei Cyber Security Association (BCSA) and Synergy Skills Sdn Bhd on professional development and certification for cybersecurity practitioners.
• Collaboration Agreement between Progresif Sdn Bhd and ST Engineering Info-Security Pte Ltd on the establishment and operation of cybersecurity solutions, specifically through the provision of Security Operation Centre.
Distribution of Trend Micro Antivirus License Keys 
 
Following a collaboration between Cyber Security Brunei and Trend Micro, and as part of its corporate social responsibility project, Trend Micro has presented 10,000 antivirus license keys to be distributed to students and 5,000 license keys to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with a total value of USD300,000. On hand to receive the antivirus license keys on behalf of students was Dr Hj Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education, while Mohamad Azad Zaki Haji Mohd Tahir, President of Brunei Cyber Security Association, received them on behalf of SMEs.
2023 & 2024 National Winners of Top Women in Security ASEAN Region Awards 
BCSA also recognized recent winners of Top Women in Security ASEAN Region Awards with the presentation of appreciation gifts. Dr Rosyzie Anna Haji Mohd Apong, a lecturer at Universiti Brunei Darussalam, has been selected as the winner of the 2024 Security Trainer & Educator Award, in addition to the 2024 Country Award for Brunei. Meanwhile, Jasmine Wong was also recognized as the winner of the 2023 Country Award for Brunei.
Cyber Battle 2024 Prize Presentation 
Dato Seri Paduka Hj Sufian bin Hj Sabtu, Deputy Minister (Security and Law) at the Prime Minister’s Office awarded prizes to the winners of Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag, which saw 10 teams of hackers completing cybersecurity challenges in an intense 8-hour competition which stimulates real-world IT scenarios.
