Brunei Darussalam and United Arab Emirates Strengthen Bilateral Cybersecurity Cooperation Through Signing of Memorandum Of Understanding

​The Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), Brunei Darussalam, and the Cyber Security Council, United Arab Emirates, solidified their commitment to mutual cooperation and advancement in the field of cybersecurity through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperations (MoFAIC), Abu Dhabi as a sideline event to the Regional Cyber Security Week which was held from 8th to 13th October 2023 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Cybersecurity Cooperation was signed by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications and as Minister-in-charge of Cybersecurity representing the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Hamad Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cyber Security, representing the UAE Government.

The signing highlights the mutual commitment of the two nations to fostering a secure and resilient cyber environment. It underscores the shared vision of Brunei Darussalam and the United Arab Emirates to elevate cybersecurity measures and fortify international collaboration to counter evolving cyber threats effectively.

This partnership embodies the essence of strategic alliances, emphasizing the commitment of both nations to combatting cyber challenges and will foster collaboration on matters relating to the latest trends and developments in cybersecurity, challenges and threats facing cybersecurity, strategies and best practices for cybersecurity incident response and recovery, and cybersecurity education and awareness.

Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Shamhary Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, will further contribute to the cybersecurity discourse as a distinguished panelist at the upcoming GITEX Global Cybersecurity Conference which will be held on 16th October 2023 at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), Dubai. With the theme “The Year to Imagine AI in Everything”, the conference serves as a vital platform for global leaders, industry experts, and policymakers to deliberate on the latest advancements and strategies in cybersecurity.

Also joining Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were His Excellency Haji Harun bin Haji Junid, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Abu Dhabi, Yang Mulia Awang Haji Hairul Mohd Daud Bin Haji Abdul Karim, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications) Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), Yang Mulia Shamsul Bahri bin Hj Kamis, Interim Commissioner of Cyber Security Brunei (CSB) as well as senior officers from both the Ministry and CSB.
