Thursday, 16th April 2020 - Launching of The New Strategic Plan for The Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications - MTIC 2025

The Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) today launched its new Strategic Plan, MTIC 2025 for the next five years.

Through MTIC 2025, the direction and main focus for the Ministry is aligned to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam's aspiration for Brunei Darussalam to become a Smart Nation. With its new vision, "Connected Smart Nation" and mission "Enhancing Connectivity for greater socio-economic opportunities, innovation and high quality of life", MTIC's Strategic Plan is also aligned to the three goals of the Brunei Vision 2035 which include High Quality of Life, Highly Educated and Skilled Workforce and a Sustainable and Dynamic Economy.

The ministry's approach is guided by six (6) core strategies as follows:-

  1. Digital Transformation – showing efforts for Brunei Darussalam to achieve the status of a Smart Nation based on Digital Government, Digital Society and Digital Economy platforms.

 

  1. Ensuring Sustainability of the Transport and Infocommunications Sectors – to bring about Smart Transportation through aspects of Electric Vehicles and Intelligent Transport System (ITS) pilot projects, among others, towards improving the Public Transport System in Brunei Darussalam.  In the Infocommunications Technology (ICT) aspect, through the Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA), the Ministry is also driven to support active participation and innovation from related stakeholders for ICT products, not only for domestic use but to also commercialise them for export.

     
  2. Safety Standards in Transport and Infocommunications Sectors – the Ministry shall continue efforts to reduce road fatality rates as well as to ensure safety and preparedness standards and compliance for all agencies under it for the safety, security and well-being of all passengers and users.

     
  3. Policy and Regulatory Framework Conducive to Investments and Businesses – actively pursuing initiatives, joint ventures and collaboration with relevant stakeholders to consolidate policy suggestions and recommendations for formulation and review towards further facilitating industry and investment development.

     
  4. Organisational Transformation – transformation of management and operations will be continued with new approaches towards achieving service efficiency and effectiveness for the public especially in the postal services, civil aviation and land transport sectors; and

     
  5. Enhancing International Cooperation – through regional and international fora such as the ASEAN Transport Ministers' Meeting (ATM) and the ASEAN Digital Ministers' Meeting (ADGMIN) where regional agreements will be pursued bilaterally and multi-laterally for the benefit of all parties in the fields of training, capacity-building and others in the transport and ICT sectors.

Through this new Strategic Plan, MTIC will also focus and target on transport and ICT sector development and increasing job opportunities for locals.

The MTIC 2025 Strategic Plan will be launched today via its upload in PDF Format and Interactive e-book format featuring live Titah Excerpts by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam onto the official website of the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunication at www.mtic.gov.bn.
