The Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) and the Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS) have formalized a partnership through the signing of an agreement to develop Brunei Darussalam’s National Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Strategy Framework.

The key initiative aims to chart the nation’s long-term strategic direction in science, technology, and innovation, while supporting sustainable social-economy growth and national development objectives.

The collaboration marks a significant step toward establishing a cohesive and forward-looking STI roadmap. The strategy will outline Brunei’s national priorities, strategic thrusts, and policy directions to strengthen the country’s capacity and resilience in science, technology and innovation. It also aims to support the aspirations of Wawasan Brunei 2035, and supports the advancement of Brunei’s innovation ecosystem in line with international best practices.

The agreement was signed by Yang Mulia Awang Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications), on behalf of MTIC, and Yang Mulia Dr. Diana Cheong, Acting Executive Director, on behalf of CSPS.

The STI Strategy will be developed through a series of consultative and inclusive stakeholder engagements involving government agencies, academia, industry player, and civil society. A range of workshops, dialogues, and forums will be conducted to ensure the framework reflects national needs and delivers practical, results-oriented outcomes.

The strategy will also define actionable plans, measurable performance indicators, and effective implementation mechanisms to support Brunei’s transition into an innovative, inclusive, and knowledge-based economy.

The draft framework is expected to be completed by first quarter of 2026, laying the foundation for a more coordinated, integrated, and resilient approach to science and innovation governance in the years ahead.
