The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD), under the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), held a Tree Planting Event in conjunction with World Meteorological Day 2025 today at the BDMD Weather Radar Building, Kampong Melabau.
The Guest of Honour for the event was Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications.
The event commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and prayers led by Yang Mulia Yang Mulia Abdul Razak bin Samat, Imam Tingkat I, Masjid Sufri Bolkiah Perpindahan Berakas, followed by welcoming remarks from Yang Mulia Dayang Rokiah binti Haji Angas, Acting Director of Meteorology, who also served as the Chairperson of the event.
The programme continued with a warm-up session, followed by the tree planting activity, which was officiated by Yang Berhormat the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications at the designated planting area. This was then followed by a collective tree planting session by other invited guests. A total of 50 Bucida Green saplings and 15 Gardenia plants were planted around the Weather Radar Building compound.
This tree planting activity is part of the World Meteorological Day 2025 celebration and also one of BDMD’s initiatives in support of the Green Protocol Guidelines, which were introduced in alignment with the implementation of the Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy (BNCCP) by the Brunei Climate Change Office (BCCO) in 2021. The Green Protocol Guidelines outline measures to reduce the carbon footprint of public service premises in Brunei Darussalam, taking into account several key elements, including tree planting.
Also present at the event were Yang Mulia Awang Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications), Yang Mulia Awang Haji Mohammad Salihin bin Haji Aspar, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport), Chief Executive, Division Directors, Heads of Departments, representatives from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), as well as officers and staff members.
