As an initial step towards the transformation of Brunei Darussalam’s postal sector, PosBru Sdn Bhd (“PosBru”) held an Open Day on 10 December 2025. The session served to provide key stakeholders with a clear overview of PosBru’s role, operating model, and future direction following the corporatisation of the Brunei Postal Services Department (“BPSD”). The session was attended by representatives from all Government agencies, relevant stakeholders, as well as business customers of BPSD.
The Open Day began with a speech by Awang Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications. He outlined the strategic direction in implementing the corporatisation policy of the Postal Services Department and emphasised that this morning session provided an opportunity for all parties to obtain further information and raise questions regarding the corporatisation process.Government agencies and industry representatives were briefed on PosBru’s operational framework, service offerings and strategic priorities. The session encouraged open dialogue, giving participants the opportunity to raise queries, seek clarification and understand how the new entity will operate within the evolving digital environment.
Transforming Postal Services for a Dynamic Digital Future
Effective 1 January 2026, all existing postal services under BPSD will be transitioned to PosBru, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd ("Darussalam Assets") operating as a Public Postal Licensee regulated by Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam ("AITI").
This corporatisation is not merely a structural adjustment but a forward-looking strategy to strengthen Brunei’s postal sector within the digital economy. Through this model, PosBru will, in stages:
• Adopt a more customer-centric and efficient delivery approach
• Expand its business capabilities and market reach
• Drive innovative and modern product development
• Create stronger employment and commercial opportunities
Ultimately, this transformation reflects the nation’s commitment to ensuring postal services remain competitive, sustainable and relevant in a fast-changing digital landscape.
Strong Focus on Staff Welfare and Job Security
A critical component of this transition is the assurance of staff welfare and employment continuity. To support a clear and transparent transition, MTIC, PosBru and Darussalam Assets have implemented a comprehensive Communication Plan to brief employees on service terms, benefits, career pathways and role expectations under PosBru. This plan has been executed through a series of small-group engagements (SGEs), one-to-one sessions and Townhall dialogues.
In line with the corporatisation objectives, all BPSD officers and staff will be offered positions within PosBru. Beyond job assurance, the transition presents opportunities for employees to grow in a more dynamic and progressive corporate environment.
