Brunei Darussalam participated in the Second Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Conference of Transport Ministers (OICCTM) held on 12 February 2026 in Istanbul, Republic of Türkiye, under the theme “Strengthening Transport Connectivity to Deepen Fraternity among OIC Member States”. The Conference reaffirmed collective efforts to enhance cooperation, integration and sustainable development across the transport sector within the Islamic world.
Brunei Darussalam was represented by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications.
His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Türkiye’s president, in a video message to the OIC transport ministers, called for stronger transport integration among members of the OIC, stating that beyond facilitating the mobility of goods and people, transportation has also emerged as a vital element of development, competitive advantage, and regional integration. As such, an efficient, reliable, and integrated transport networks are essential to unlocking the Islamic world’s geographical advantages into strategic economic strength.
A total of 28 Heads of Delegation, including Brunei Darussalam, delivered General Statements outlining their national priorities and perspectives on advancing transport connectivity and cooperation among OIC Member States. In his Statement, Yang Berhormat underscored the vital role of the transportation and logistics sector as a catalyst for economic prosperity, social inclusion, and the safeguarding of national interests. Yang Berhormat highlighted Brunei Darussalam’s ambition to grow the transport sector’s contribution to the national economy in line with Wawasan Brunei 2035.
At the same time Yang Berhormat also emphasised the importance of transport safety and high-quality infrastructure as essential foundations for seamless transport and logistics. Continued investment in airport and seaport infrastructure, together with the strategic adoption of technology, remains central to achieving Brunei Darussalam’s transport and connectivity aspirations.
As the second largest intergovernmental organization, the OIC and its Conference of Transport Ministers provide an important platform for deepening transport cooperation among Member States to promote trade, tourism and investment, particularly through expanding air and maritime connectivity within the OIC region. Enhanced transport linkages would not only facilitate safe, reliable and sustainable movement of goods and people, but also strengthen humanitarian assistance capabilities when necessary.
On the sidelines of the Conference, Yang Berhormat held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye. The discussions explored potential collaboration in aviation and maritime development, as well as broader cooperation in logistics and infocommunications, with a view to further strengthening bilateral relations and trade between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Türkiye.

Also present as part of Brunei Darussalam’s delegation were Yang Mulia Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, Her Excellency Noni Zurainah binti Haji Ismi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Türkiye, and senior officials from the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD), and the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in the Republic of Türkiye.
