Apr 24, 2026
Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, led Brunei Darussalam’s delegation and participation in the Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) and EXPO 2026 that runs from 20 to 24 April 2026.

The Brunei Maritime Booth at the EXPO was led by the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD), with the participation of Muara Port Company (MPC) and Muara Maritime Services (MMS) in showcasing Brunei Darussalam’s latest maritime, port, and digital initiatives, while engaging industry stakeholders to explore collaboration opportunities and exchange perspectives on the future of the maritime sector.

The collaborative participation of our maritime industry players also reaffirms the nation’s collective commitment to strengthening international maritime cooperation and advancing a resilient, future-ready maritime sector. This marked MPABD’s first participation in the SMW Expo.

Organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) 2026 marked its 20th edition this year and was officially launched by His Excellency Jeffrey Siow, Acting Minister of Transport and Senior Minister of State for Finance of Singapore.

Held under the theme “Actions Meet Ambition”, the event brought together more than 20,000 participants from close to 80 countries and regions, including Ministers, senior government officials, industry leaders, and maritime professionals, to exchange views on shared challenges and explore practical pathways for the future of international shipping.

At the opening of SMW 2026, the Singapore Maritime Lecture was delivered by His Excellency Gan Kim Yong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry of Singapore. The lecture underscored the importance of collaboration, innovation, and sustainability in shaping the next phase of global maritime development.

Yang Berhormat the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications participated in a closed-door Ministerial Roundtable held in conjunction with SMW 2026, themed “Future Ready Maritime – Opportunities and Challenges Ahead”, chaired by His Excellency Jeffrey Siow. The Roundtable brought together Ministers and heads of maritime organisations from ten countries to deliberate on key areas including sustainability, digitalisation, and regulatory cooperation.

During the Roundtable, Yang Berhormat, among others, reaffirmed Brunei Darussalam’s support for a rules-based international maritime system that is uniformly applied to ensure the safe passage of vessels and the protection of seafarers. Yang Berhormat also underscored the importance of maintaining sustainable and resilient maritime links that safeguard global supply chains and energy security.

Also present as part of Brunei Darussalam’s delegation were Yang Mulia Awang Haji Mohammad Salihin bin Haji Aspar, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport) at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, and Yang Mulia Captain (Ret) Zil Husam bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Chief Executive of MPABD as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) and MPABD.
