Brunei Convenes National Dialogue to Advance Delivery of Digital Brunei 2030

Jun 4, 2026
The Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) today convened the Digital Brunei 2030 (DB2030) Dialogue Session themed “Together Towards a Digital Brunei”, bringing together leaders from government, industry, academia, and communities to discuss the practical implementation of Brunei Darussalam’s national digital agenda under Wawasan Brunei 2035.

Held at Cesar Grand Hall, Level 8, The Mulia Hotel, Kampong Anggerek Desa, the dialogue session reflects a collective national effort to translate the recently published Digital Brunei 2030 plan into tangible actions and measurable outcomes that will shape the country’s digital future.

The dialogue marks a deliberate shift in focus from establishing national direction towards delivering meaningful outcomes. Building on the foundations established under the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025, including connectivity infrastructure, digital payments, and national digital identity capabilities, Digital Brunei 2030 now places greater emphasis on delivering seamless, trusted, and citizen-centric digital experiences that improve everyday interactions between people, businesses, and Government.

The event commenced with welcoming remarks by Yang Mulia Ir. Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications and Secretary of the Digital Brunei Council, who emphasised the importance of continued collaboration, whole-of-nation participation, and shared responsibility in advancing Brunei Darussalam’s digital ambitions.

A briefing on “Digital Brunei 2030: Together Towards a Digital Brunei” was delivered by Yang Mulia Pengiran Dr. Adrian bin Pengiran Salleh Ab Rahaman, Head of Technology and Innovation Division, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications. The briefing outlined how DB2030 consolidates four interrelated national strategies, namely Digital Government, Digital Society, Digital Business, and Data and Artificial Intelligence, into a unified framework for national digital transformation.

Central to the plan is the development of national digital platforms and infrastructure designed to be shared and scaled across Government rather than developed independently by individual agencies. These include the Gov.BN Super App as a single gateway for government services, BruneiID as the national digital identity platform launched in January 2026, and a National QR Code for cashless payments.

These platforms are further reinforced through investments in sovereign digital capabilities, including the development of an AI-capable Data Centre, a National Sovereign Cloud, and a National Brunei Large Language Model aimed at strengthening national digital resilience, enhancing technological capability, and ensuring strategic control over national data assets.

Together, these initiatives are intended to improve access to digital services, simplify transactions, strengthen public service delivery, enhance trust in digital systems, and create greater opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.

The briefing also outlined the implementation roadmap for 2026 to 2030, including governance mechanisms led by the Digital Brunei Council and supported by dedicated committees responsible for policy coordination, implementation oversight, and technical alignment across ministries and stakeholders to ensure effective delivery and accountability.

The programme also featured a panel discussion entitled “Driving Brunei’s Digital Future”, moderated by Allen Lai, Managing Director of Confer Sdn Bhd. Bringing together perspectives from across sectors, the panel explored how Digital Brunei 2030 can be translated into measurable outcomes, how Brunei Darussalam can remain adaptive amid rapidly evolving technologies such as artificial intelligence, and how businesses, institutions, and communities can actively contribute towards achieving national digital ambitions.

The dialogue session is intended to serve as the first in a continuing series of engagements through which stakeholder feedback, perspectives, and experiences will help shape implementation priorities and support the continuous refinement of the national digital agenda.

The session concluded with a networking segment, providing opportunities for participants to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships, and foster collaborative opportunities in support of a more connected, inclusive, secure, and digitally empowered Brunei Darussalam.
