The Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD), with the support of maritime industry players and stakeholders, officially launched the Maritime Single Window (MSW) this morning in a ceremony held at Seri Kerna Hall, MPABD Headquarters.
The launch was officiated by the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications and Chairman of MPABD.
The event commenced with welcoming remarks by Yang Mulia Captain (Ret.) Zil Husam bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Chief Executive of MPABD, who underscored the launch of the MSW as a pivotal milestone in Brunei Darussaam's ongoing digital transformation agenda. In his remarks, he stated:
“Today, we take a major step forward in transforming the way ship clearance processes are conducted in Brunei Darussalam. The implementation of the Maritime Single Window, as mandated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under the FAL Convention, allows for the electronic submission, processing, and approval of port clearance information – all through a single online platform."
The Maritime Single Window (MSW) is a digital platform designed to streamline and expedite the submission and approval process of port clearance documentation. By optimising operational workflows, the MSW enhance efficiency for stakeholders and facilitates a more seamless and transparent experience within the maritime industry.
Following the successful implementation of Phase 1, the upcoming Phase 2 of MPABD's Digital Transformation initiative will focus on the full digitalization and centralisation of all MPABD services. This includes vessel registration, licensing, maritime training, financial systems, and online payments, all of which are scheduled to go live during the Brunei Darussalam Maritime Week, on 29 September 2025.
The launch of the MSW reinforces MPABD's strong commitment to leveraging digital innovation in maritime operations, while advancing the sector's efficiency, transparency, and global competitiveness.
The ceremony concluded with a live demonstration of the MSW system, witnessed by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications.
Also in attendance were Permenent Secretary and Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunciations, senior government officials, and key stakeholders from the maritime industry.
