Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, Brunei Darussalam attended the ASEAN-Russia Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation (ARMMSTI) on 14 February 2022 via Video Conference.
The ASEAN-Russia Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (ARMMSTI) meeting was co-chaired by the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications and His Excellency Airat Gatiyatov, Acting Minister of Science and Higher Education, Russia. Among the matters that were highlighted during the meeting was the National Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Priorities of ASEAN Member States, as well as announcing the formal closure of the ASEAN-Russia Year of Scientific and Technical Cooperation 2022 (ARYSTC 2022). The meeting, among other things, touched on the achievements of the ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Relations throughout the 26 years as well as the extensive initiatives and programmes implemented to further strengthening STI cooperation between ASEAN and Russia.
The Minister of Transport and Infocommunications in his remarks, amongst others shared that Brunei Darussalam is committed to developing the national science and technology ecosystem that is conducive towards supporting the country's socio-economic development. The Minister of Transport and Infocommunications also emphasized that investments in Research & Development (R&D), entrepreneurship and collaboration with international partners are essential to achieve that goal. The establishment of the Brunei Darussalam Council for Research and the Advancement of Technology and Science (CREATES) in 2021signifies this ongoing commitment.
Also present at the meeting were Yang Mulia Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, Yang Mulia Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications) at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications and was also joined by senior officials at Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications.
